Barbara Kruger-Depression
We had to design a number of posters using words and images based on Barbara Kruger’s style of work for photography, the theme I used for this poster was depression. The photograph itself is of a stranger “who I very nicely pulled to the side” and asked him to pretend to hold up a make-believe sign then afterwards I edited the photograph in Photoshop and placed the boxes and text in Illustrator.
The Dot Project
This was an illustration exercise by a group of us at my university one afternoon. We used an array of dots and media to create the final piece over a space of 45 minutes or more. It was displayed on the ground floor in the university of ulster some following weeks after, along side a number of groups which had done the same as us.
Russian Constructivism
This handcrafted Russian Constructivism poster was based on myself, with influences from El Lissitzky. The theme I went with was PlayStation and I used it though out the poster design. I knew from the start of this brief that I wanted a strong hierarchy within the layout and that the poster would not contain any images so not to subtract from the composition.
The fronts that I used totaled three, Kremlin, Kyrilla and Soviet. I also incorporated the PlayStation controls (R1 and the triangle, square, X and circle) into the poster and “since 1994″ was then the first PlayStation was released. Finally the grey, black and orange shapes are based on PlayStation C.D’s.
Little Green Men
Based on modular shapes these characters came into being from the use of 3 shapes and basic colours. These strange little aliens have a natural tendency to get into trouble where ever they may go “their curiosity makes sure of that” flying around in their U.F.O’s abducting and investigating are planet as they please. I also created farmers and animals to interact with the aliens. This image was the middle spread in a 14 page booklet composed of modular shapes.
